Hip tightness after long runs
Also Known As: Post-run hip stiffness, runner’s hip, anterior hip tightness
Tight, stiff, or pinching sensation in the front, side, or deep inside the hip; discomfort standing after sitting; loss of mobility during stride.

Common Causes
Overactive hip flexors (psoas, TFL) from running volume or prolonged sitting
Glute weakness or asymmetry increasing hip flexor demand
Insufficient warm-up or cool-down
Inefficient running gait mechanics (overstriding, anterior pelvic tilt, poor cadence)
Did You Know?
Hip tightness after long runs is not always just a mobility issue. It can also reflect how your glutes, core, and stride mechanics are handling fatigue over distance.
How Zenith Can Help
At Zenith in Eugene, we assess mobility restrictions, muscle overuse, hip weakness, pelvic control, and running mechanics. We build a plan to improve movement, reduce irritation, and handle longer runs more comfortably.
Next Steps
If hip tightness is limiting your stride, recurring after every long run, or turning into a pinch or sharp catch, get a PT evaluation. We’ll assess mobility, strength, and mechanics to identify the root cause and build a long-term plan.
Be mindful of route profile on Eugene-area trail runs. Long climbs, slanted roads, and uneven trails add extra demand to the hips. Rotate flatter routes and avoid stacking long runs with heavy lower-body training.
