Originally from Spokane, Zak grew up with an appreciation for the Pacific Northwest. He found his passion in running early and competed for Washington State University in cross country and track while studying Kinesiology. Impressed by his teammates’ performances, he became interested in furthering his understanding of human performance.
Zak went on to earn his M.S. in Sport and Exercise Analytics from Marquette University, where he also competed as a student athlete with extra COVID eligibility. He then supported both athletics and research as a graduate assistant in cross country and as a research assistant for the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center.
Since 2023, Zak has worked as a research associate in the Bowerman Sport Science Center on projects aimed at preventing injury and improving performance in elite athletes. One of his most recent projects has focused on studying the impact of bone stress injuries on runners.
As a Certified Performance & Sport Scientist, Zak loves using data to quantify and visualize performance for athletes and coaches. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, he enjoys helping runners improve injury resilience and peak performance. Outside of the gym, he enjoys spending time with friends, family, his fiancé, and their cats.
