About Adductor (Groin) Strain
Groin strains are common in field sports with cutting and kicking, and they often recur if strength is not rebuilt. Physical therapy uses progressive adductor and hip loading plus return-to-sport benchmarks to restore confidence. The goal is full-speed sport without lingering groin pain.
Expected Recovery Window
Mild: 2–4 weeks. Moderate: 4–8 weeks. Severe: 8–12+ weeks.
Common Symptoms
Inner thigh or groin pain; pain with side shuffles or cutting; pain with kicking; tenderness near the pubic region or inner thigh; weakness with squeezing the knees together.
Common Causes
Sudden change of direction; high-speed sprinting; kicking volume; strength imbalance between adductors and abductors; fatigue; rapid load increase in season.
How We Treat Adductor (Groin) Strain
We rebuild adductor and overall hip strength with progressive isometrics and heavy loading, improve hip mobility and trunk control, and progress cutting, sprinting, and kicking volume based on strength and pain response.
