About Achilles Rupture

An Achilles rupture is a major injury, but athletes can return strong with structured rehab. Physical therapy rebuilds calf strength and progresses plyometrics and running in phases based on clear benchmarks. The goal is confident push-off power and safe return to sport.

Expected Recovery Window

Return to running: 4–6 months. Return to sport: 6–9+ months.

Common Symptoms

Sudden pop in the back of the ankle; immediate weakness with push-off; difficulty walking; swelling and bruising; positive Thompson test; inability to perform a single-leg heel raise early on.

Common Causes

Sudden acceleration or jump; high-load eccentric calf demand; tendon degeneration; returning to sport after time off; inadequate calf strength or conditioning.

How We Treat Achilles Rupture

We follow surgical or non-surgical protocols, protect healing tissue early, restore ankle range of motion, then progressively load the calf with strength and plyometric phases. Return-to-sport is criteria-based using heel raise and hop symmetry benchmarks.
