About Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder is one of the most debilitating shoulder conditions, but with the right PT at each stage, recovery time can be cut significantly. The key is knowing when to mobilise aggressively and when to reduce pain load first.
Expected Recovery Window
With structured PT: 6–12 months vs 18–24 months untreated. Early intervention in the freezing stage dramatically reduces duration and severity.
Common Symptoms
Gradual onset of shoulder pain and progressive stiffness; loss of external rotation and overhead reach; pain at rest and with movement; difficulty with daily tasks like reaching behind the back or overhead; worse at night.
Common Causes
Idiopathic onset in adults 40–60; more common in people with diabetes, thyroid disorders, or following shoulder injury or surgery; prolonged immobilisation; prior rotator cuff issue leading to guarding.
How We Treat Frozen Shoulder
Stage-specific treatment: pain management and gentle mobility in the freezing stage, progressive joint mobilization and capsular stretching in the frozen stage, and progressive strengthening and functional restoration in the thawing stage. We coordinate with your physician for intra-articular injection if appropriate.
