About Neck Pain and Stiffness
Neck pain is one of the most common complaints in Eugene, particularly in cyclists, desk workers, and trail runners. A hands-on PT approach targeting the joints, muscles, and movement patterns of the cervical spine resolves most cases without imaging or medication.
Expected Recovery Window
Acute: 2–4 weeks. Chronic or recurrent: 6–10 weeks. Most patients improve within the first 2 sessions.
Common Symptoms
Aching or sharp pain in the neck; stiffness and reduced rotation; headaches radiating from the base of the skull; pain referring into the shoulder or upper arm; tight traps and shoulder muscles; pain worsening with prolonged screen time or cycling position.
Common Causes
Prolonged desk or cycling posture with forward head position; acute muscle strain from sudden movement; whiplash from motor vehicle accident; cervical disc degeneration; facet joint irritation; sleep position.
How We Treat Neck Pain and Stiffness
Hands-on joint mobilization and manipulation to restore cervical movement, combined with targeted deep neck flexor strengthening and postural correction. We address the contributing posture and movement patterns- particularly for cyclists and desk workers- to achieve lasting relief.
