Salmon Creek Trail

Salmon Creek Trail winds through lush forests along its namesake creek, passing waterfalls, campgrounds, and shaded canyon walls. It’s an approachable, family-friendly trail system popular with hikers, runners, and campers in Oakridge.

The Salmon Creek Trail, just east of Oakridge in Oregon's Middle Fork Willamette Corridor, is a shaded singletrack that winds for miles along the clear, rushing waters of Salmon Creek. Known for its rolling terrain, year-round water access, and dense forest canopy, this trail offers a true Pacific Northwest experience for trail runners, hikers, and mountain bikers.

The system features two primary routes: an 8-mile out-and-back and an 11-mile lollipop loop, both starting from accessible trailheads at Salmon Creek Park and Greenwaters Park. Runners will find a mix of smooth dirt tread, creekside flats, and gradual climbs, with scenic bridge crossings and several broad access points perfect for cooling off or filtering water. Elevation changes are gradual rather than steep, making Salmon Creek an excellent venue for building aerobic base, stacking volume, or dialing in pacing on longer efforts.

Because the route is shaded and follows the creek, it's a popular summer escape, yet it remains runnable well into fall and spring, with occasional snow in winter. The canopy keeps temperatures cool even on hot days, and the constant sound of moving water adds a meditative quality to longer runs. Trailhead facilities include parking, restrooms at Greenwaters Park, and easy access from Highway 58.

The Salmon Creek Trail has become a favorite training ground for Eugene and Oakridge trail runners and serves as a recurring course for the Run Hub Destination Trail Run series, making it one of the most community-connected routes in the region.
